Where learning meets play - together, we find Thabo

Finding Thabo is a fun, interactive game for young children based on the “Where’s Wally” look-seek-find concept.

Meet Thabo

Thabo’s name means joy.

He represents every child’s hopes and dreams, and is helping children across South Africa get ready for Grade R.

Thabo is curious about the world around him, and is eager to learn new things. He spends just 10 minutes a day playing his favourite picture game – and his active young mind develops quickly because of this.

Mostly, you’ll find Thabo doing what he loves most…reading!

What’s in a game?

Finding Thabo is designed as an early learning development (ECD) tool for children aged 3-6 years.

It consists of:

  • ten colourful pictures
  • an illustrated guide book
  • and a WhatsApp chatbot

Finding Thabo pictures may look like regular scenes from everyday life, but each one is layered with hundreds of research-based cognitive activities that get kids’ brains humming.

The activities stimulate millions of neural pathways and build foundations for lifelong learning – all through play.

The pictures, and the activities they unlock, also represent one full year of Grade RR school readiness content and exercises.

It’s an integrative approach, so the exercises do loads of things at once!

Best of all? It only takes 10 minutes a day for children to get these benefits.

Ten posters.
Ten daily scenes.
Thousands of activities.

How it works

When children look for Thabo, they learn amazing skills.

They learn colours, shapes, numbers and letters.

They learn how to investigate, tell stories and make connections.

They also develop critical skills like:

  • pattern recognition
  • visual closure
  • problem-solving
  • working memory
  • critical thinking
  • better self-control

How do we know? Take a look:

By spending just 10 minutes a day playing Finding Thabo, we develop a child’s potential by leaps and bounds!

Through our model of training early childhood development (ECD) practitioners to help children find Thabo, we are directly addressing deficits in children in under-resourced communities.

Target 2025

  • Train 10,000 practitioners
  • Reach 300,000 children across South Africa access
  • Change futures with our transformative Finding Thabo toolkit

When you buy a learning kit of 10 pictures and a guidebook, a portion of those funds sponsors a child in an under-resourced community in South Africa.
